Some Golf Swing Basics

Golf looks a pretty simple game on the surface. The reality is this; it is a pretty simple game. The aim is to get the ball in the hole from A to B with the least amount of shots as possible. Sound simple. Well, it is, but for most of us who are starting out, it's the "carnage" that happens between A and B that frustrates the heck out of us!

The biggest trouble for us novices is getting the golf swing right. Without proper tuition, falling into bad habits can become set in concrete. Learn the right technique from the start and with a lot of practice, the golf swing suddenly becomes a lot easier. Therefore, it's important you take a look inside your golf bag and really accquaint yourself with your clubs. Each club has a role to play as you guide your ball down a fairway and eventually into the cup. Some clubs are used more often than others but each club has it's own personal place in during the course of a round.

Some Golf Swing Etiquette

Now, those of us who have been on a golf course will always agree that initially we tried using all our strength behind the golf swing in order to get the ball to travel the farthest. However, it never works that way – though it takes quite some time and many a full powered golf swing to understand that.

The most important thing about the golf swing is actually the angle and not the strength that is applied to it. Through your golf training, you will steadily condition your lower back and shoulder muscles to a great extent, this is more for resistance purpose rather than strength. Ironically, you will get more strength to your golf swing when you engage in a relaxed stroke rather than a “full-strength-behind-it” stroke.

The best result will come when you know the right angle and the best body positioning; in other words when you follow the right technique and not brute strength. When we talk about technique, it is important to mention that the game of golf is rather awkward and requires some good training and practice before you are ready for the real thing. You need to get all the muscles in your body totally coordinated in one fluid movement in order to create a good drive over the green.

Golf is an unusual game in that while you do play against other opponents, in reality, you are really playing against yourself. Self discipline is high on the agenda; curbing that "rush of blood to the head" when commonsense is required is something many a novice fights against. Golf is a game of co-ordination between body and mind. When the two are in proper balance, wonderful things start to happen with the golf swing.
