Improving Your Game Could Just Be A Matter Of Golf Swing BasicsJ. D. DeanIt applies to almost anything in life; learn the basics, create a good foundation and if you do, you'll have a solid base to build on. Golf swing basics are the same. It's one important piece of advice I give to every person who wants to take up the game of golf.
So how do you learn good golf swing basics? Simple... get good coaching from day one. If you are really serious about making inroads in this game then some standard coaching is vital. Once you understand the principles that are required in getting around a course with the least minimum of fuss possible you then have a solid base with which to work on. This is a simple game; get the ball into the hole with the least amount of shots possible. In The Beginning Some golfers understand this from day one. Others don't. I have lost count of the number of times a new player has put looking the part ahead of playing the part. For example, someone decides to take up golf and thinks about the equipment required. So they go out and spend a fortune on a new set of clubs, bag and other apparel and they have no idea what each piece of equipment does. Then they hit the course and embarass themselves on the first tee because they didn't take the time to do a little due diligence and understand and practice some of the core principles involved in guiding that little white ball around the course safely. For Experienced Golfers At the other end of the scale, there are many golfers who actually invest a lot of time on the training "track" yet don't seem to notice any improvement in their game. In most cases, this is because they are not concentrating on specific areas of their game; the areas that they are deficient in. Identify what part of your game be it the swing, putter, chip shot, stance etc. is letting you down then seek advice on how to correct it. You may find that only a minor "tweak" to your stance may be required or it could simply be a matter of adjusting your grip. Golf swing basics not only involves technique. Believe it or not but exercise becomes part of the equation. I'm not talking vigorous exercise but more so light exercise such as stretching designed to tune the body to golf. Bottom line, if you're starting out, learn good golf swing basics. If you are relatively experienced and you game is suffering or you cannot get off a certain mark then get some advice and in most cases you'll find the above applies as well. It may just be a case of going back to the beginning for a little tune up. |
